In Single A: Asa Goding hit a walk-off HR to send Angelo State College to playoffs

It wasn’t that Angelo State College didn’t try to advance to the NCAA Division II baseball playoffs. But in a game that lasted more than four hours on Friday night, the Saints ran out of steam in the fifth inning and lost to the Colorado School of Mines, 4-3, in Platteville, Colorado.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Mines hit three straight singles and scored all four runs to break open the game. The first run scored when Angelo catcher Brett Cathey threw away a pickoff throw, allowing the runners to advance to second and third. Nick Maag singled to center to score Michael Harbeson to give Mines a 3-2 lead. As Bobby Theaker drew a walk, Maag came home on Travis Weisz’s single, and Theaker came home on a groundout by Alexander Shaffer, giving Mines a 4-2 lead. Angelo’s Ryan Dever tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh.
