Housing/Health Care: NHS offers residential, assisted living, special needs housing in Arlington

The Woodlands, a high-end and established community in northern Texas with 981 condos, executive housing and luxury rentals, offers a community for seniors and aging adults. Headquartered in McKinney, Texas, NHS operates in nine states — including Maryland and Virginia — with care facilities in Old Town Alexandria, Gaithersburg, Bethesda, Rockville, Arlington, Fairfax County, Fredericksburg and Williamsburg. “Our business is life’s journey through caring and support,” says Cathy Lewis, VP of Marketing for NHS. “Homeowners can bring new meaning to ‘life’s journey’ by becoming active participants in a process that supports their aspirations, enabling them to transition out of a shelter into a supportive home environment. Our goal is to enable seniors to remain in their homes — physically, socially and intellectually — as long as possible.” Currently HHS, the Maryland and Virginia Departments of Aging and Health are developing a strategy to include healthcare innovation in general and ageing innovators in particular. As one of the industry leaders that has an ongoing dialogue with practitioners and policymakers on how to best accelerate innovation, NHS had the foresight to invest in its peer-initiated innovation centers that address aging-related needs by using telemedicine, software and technology.
