A revamped Formula 1 calendar will add a street race in the US, with an as yet unknown date in 2022 as the race gets going.

It was revealed at a media briefing in California as the 2020 season starts under new ownership at the United States Grand Prix.

The British Grand Prix and Mexico City Grand Prix are the two new North American races scheduled for 2020.

The Wall Street Journal says a second race in Miami – dubbed “Miami Rock ‘n’ Roll Grand Prix” – is also in the pipeline.

Formula 1 is backed by American businessmen Chase Carey and Chase Carey, who began talks to host the race in Miami and return to Grand Prix racing in North America in 2015.

They believe staging one race on the world’s biggest sporting stage would be a major boost for the sport.

In addition to Miami, there is expected to be an America’s Cup qualifying race and a stop in Detroit in the 2021 calendar, as well as North American Grand Prix events in New York, Montreal and Atlanta.

Previous Grand Prix in North America consist of two-race weekends in New Jersey, Texas and Atlanta.

Talks to host races in New York and Montreal stalled in 2015.
